Camp hbcyouth is an educational summer day camp based on historically black colleges or universities
Camp HBCYouth provides students and parents with ongoing education and support when school is not in session, in a safe and inclusive environment. In similar fashion to HBCUs, our camp programming serves a vital function in educating minority youth, while increasing access to an otherwise hard to obtain development resource, within a traditionally underserved community.
Summer camp makes kids resilient to life stress
Our position on HBCU campuses offers a unique opportunity to explore cultural heritage and gain exposure to an educational experience and institution designed for the progression of black people in academics, community, and leadership.
Through this early exposure, children can gain a deeper understanding of their heritage and develop a sense of pride in their cultural identity, build self-esteem, and develop leadership skills.
Despite these benefits, however, not all Black children have access to HBCUs or summer camps. Many families may not be able to afford the cost of camp, so to address these challenges, our mission is to increase access by subsidizing the cost of camp to $200 per child, per week. Thats only $40 per day!
Kids need to learn the skills below as they’re growing up. These are all skills that are central to success in school, as well as later in life.
We are immensely grateful for the incredible experience our child had at Camp HBCYouth. From the moment they stepped into the camp, we could sense the dedication and passion of the staff. The carefully crafted programs not only kept our child engaged but also fostered a love for learning that we’ve seen continue even after the summer.
In short, Camp HBCYouth has left a lasting positive impact on our child, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to other families seeking an enriching and culturally affirming summer experience.
Camp HBCYouth is not just a camp; it’s a community. The sense of unity and celebration of diversity is evident in every aspect of our work. This inclusivity is not just a mission statement; it’s a daily practice that influences the positive atmosphere within the camp.
